We are strong advocates of healthy, natural teeth—and early detection of tooth decay is key to maintaining a strong and beautiful smile. To help, we use CariVu™, a safe, non-invasive infrared camera that detects hidden tooth decay quickly, accurately and in its early stages. This allows us to identify and treat tooth decay conservatively, reducing the need for more expensive and time consuming restorations.
How can DEXIS CariVu™ help me?
Due to advanced transillumination technology, CariVu accurately exposes more cavities than X-rays and examinations. Sometimes cavities can “go underground” due to fluoridation. This essentially means that lesions on the surface of the tooth bed move down and remain invisible to the naked eye. Because CariVu exposes cavities earlier, more treatment options are possible, with a greater chance of saving the affected tooth.
Below are some of the other benefits associated with CariVu:
- Allows dentists to perform treatment with greater confidence
- Allows for the investigation of suspicious areas
- Completely safe
- Cost effective
- Produces real, measurable results
- Helps reduce future dental procedures
- More patient involvement
- More accurate than other diagnostic tools
- No exposure to ionizing radiation
- No exposure to X-rays
- No need for invasive investigations
- No pain or scratching
What does the DEXIS CariVu™ process involve?
During a regular dental checkup, we will use CariVu to take high-quality images of your teeth. CariVu uses infrared light to make your tooth enamel appear transparent, which helps us see the beginning stages of lesions or cracks due to cavities. The imaging process is completely painless.
Once the imaging process is complete, we will be able to easily determine which teeth have decay, if any. We will review these images with you and create a treatment plan based on your needs.
“Love going there because they take such good care of my teeth. Debra, my dental hygienist, found a trouble spot and we decided to take care of it right away instead of waiting for my next visit.
